  • Riddle's Jewelry in Oak View Mall customer review by Jade Reanne Hakola

    - Sep 04, 2020

I am very disappointed with my experience here at Riddle's, and that is putting it lightly. I love Riddle's and their designs, I always stop by when I am at the Oakview Mall. I was delighted to hear that they had an in store jeweler and I could create a custom piece. I am a person who frequents jewelry stores and often makes custom pieces but after moving here I hadn't found a new 'home base." I was talking the the jeweler (and for animosity sake, we will name him Paul for the purpose of this review) and I told him what I wanted, and my vision. Paul was very kind and competent and understood everything I said. He said it wasn't too complex and wouldn't take too long and gave me an estimated date to be done in a month from then. So, it would be done July 8th. On July 13th I called, wondering when it should be done. They gave me a guarantee it would be done and ready for me on Friday (July 17th). So, on that Friday I came in to pick up the piece to find that not only was it not done but today was Paul's very first day working on it. I understand that customs take longer as things ship etc, but from any other store I would expect an update to the customer. He told me it would be done "soon." Paul had that Sat, Sun, Mon off so the soonest "soon" could be would be next Tuesday. Although, Paul did not tell me that, I learned by calling. So, I called the next Friday and was told yet again it wasn't ready. And Paul was off the next three days. This time it was the store manager who was told to pick up the call. As I write this part, it has been over two weeks since the date it was supposed to be ready and I have relieved no communication whatsoever from Riddles- despite after each call asking to be given updates. Honestly at this point, I have half the mind to ask for my deposit back. ..... Today was a full month from the initial expected finish date and I called and spoke with the general manager. He went through the drawer to find no work had been done on my piece and notified me the jeweler would call me later that day. He didn't call until three minutes prior to close but I was happy with what answer I was given. He said he decided to remake the earrings because they didn't match his quality and that he was sorry for the delay and would give me a discounted price as a result of the lack of communication. Let me clarify here: this was the VERY FIRST time I ever received a call back from Riddle's. Paul said they would be done next week so August 16th. It is now September and they still are not completed. I've been told I was supposed to have been receiving a call from a manager and they did not call, so I did. He said I'd be called back in a few minutes. Needless to say, that did not happen. The lack of communication here is crazy. To think it was supposed to be done in July ... And here we are in August... Unbelievable. Today is September 4th and I have made my last and final call to Riddle''s. I talked to a lady and expressed my concerns about how my piece was supposed to be finished back in July and here we are now and I have never received a call (minus one anomaly) or have been updated on what was going on. She spoke to the jeweler who said he couldn't complete it, he didn't have the tools he needed, and would have to send it to home office and it would be an additional 3 weeks or I could get a refund. I am obviously getting the refund. It doesn't take months to figure out that you can't do something with the tools you have. Especially if your career is oriented in making jewelry. You would notice fairly quickly you couldn't do it. It's funny too because my earrings are extremely simple. If Paul had started working on the earrings, noticed one way didn't work, then tried another and failed and decided to call me and say he had to give it to home office then they would have already been done by now. Paul didn't communicate with me and I am assuming probably sat on them and wanted a manager to make the call. I can make this assumption because one time out of the many I called the staff member said there was a note for the GM to call me about the earrings. However, when I called back the next day to speak with the GM, he didn't know what the note was about. Who knows how long it had been there, etc. Riddle's has pretty pieces but if you are doing anything in which you want to be updated, or called- go elsewhere. Their communication is awful. Coworkers don't communicate amongst themselves, nor t their customers. I was so excited to have a new jeweler but even when I had my necklace repaired, nobody called to tell me it was done... poor. service.
